Mono County
Mono County was created by an act of the Legislature on April
21, 1861, and was the first of the mining counties to be
organized as such on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada
mountains in the state of California.
The county seat is in the town of Bridgeport, where most of the
county offices are located in the handsome and historic
courthouse which was built in 1880. There are a total of 8
cities in the county. The county population is about 13,000.

Mono History
Mono County was formed in 1861 from parts of Calaveras County,
Fresno County and Mariposa County. Parts of the county's
territory were given to Inyo County in 1866.The county is named
after Mono Lake which, in 1852, was named for a Native American
Paiute tribe that inhabited the Sierra Nevada from north of Mono
Lake to Owens Lake. The tribe's western neighbors, the Yokuts,
called them monachie meaning "fly people" because the pupae of a
fly was their chief food staple and trading article.

United States, on the east side of the Sierra Nevada south of
Yosemite National Park. As of 2000 the county had a population

highest peak in the lower 48 states, is located in the county.
Death Valley National Park, the lowest point in the United
States, is also located in the county. The only incorporated
city is Bishop.
Inyo History
Inyo County was formed in 1866 from parts of Mono and Tulare
Counties. The county derived its name from the Native American
name for the mountains in its area. The meaning of the word inyo
is "dwelling place of the great spirit."
Prayer Focus for Both Mono & Inyo counties: Concerns & Needs
Submited by a Mountain Area Leader:
Pray for existing churches. Pray for the Lord to touch pastors,
elders, worship leaders, and congregations with encouragement
and fresh fire! Pray that the Lord would raise up and unify
intercessors within the county.
Pray for the lonely, abused, and down-trodden, that they would
come to have the hope that is found in Jesus!
Pray that more Christians would come in to the market place,
that businesses would flourish and the unemployment rate would
drastically drop. And to GOD be the Glory!
Pray for the peace and joy of the Lord to hover over the cities.
Pray for those addicted to alcohol, drugs and pornography and
for the innocent ones whose lives are harmed by their
parent's/guardian's addictions.
Pray for the elderly and that they would get the health care and
provision they need.
Pray that every knee will bow and every tongue will come to
confess Jesus as Lord!
