About San Francisco County
San Francisco was first named Yerba
Buena. The name of the town was
changed after the war between Mexico
and the U.S. over rights to Texas
and California. In 1846 the named
was changed to San Francisco after
the name of the bay. The name San
Francisco was given by the Spanish
explorer Sebastian Cermeno after the
founder of the Franciscan order,
Francis of Assisi. (Note: He was
known as a Father of Prayer).
Mission Dolores founded in San
Francisco was dedicated in 1776 just
five days before the signing of the
Declaration of Independence. It is
one of the oldest church buildings
in California.
The city and the County of San
Francisco were formed on June 11,
1856. The current population of San
Francisco is 776,000 people. The
Chamber of Commerce web site lists 9
Counties that make up the Bay Area:
San Francisco, Sonoma, Napa, Solano,
Marin, Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa
Clara, San Mateo Counties. The
combined population of these
counties is over 6 Million people.
San Francisco was founded in 1776,
and the first Christian worship
service was held here almost a month
before the America's Declaration of
Independence was signed. San
Francisco began in prayer and
worship!
Intercessors, evangelists, pastors,
soul-winners, and many compassion
ministries have received God's heart
to bless San Francisco. Many, many
renowned Revivalists have ministered
in San Francisco, including Smith
Wigglesworth, Kathryn Kuhlman, Aimee
Semple MacPherson, & Billy Graham,
to name only a few. San Francisco's
redemptive gift of MERCY has been
grievously distorted in recent
years.
San Francisco is not only one of the
most beautiful cities in the world,
but also one of the most
influential. This City has been the
epicenter of many movements that
have swept our planet in recent
history, including the beatnik,
hippie, and New Age Movements. (In
fact, many of the things that may be
challenging your communities right
now began in this City and
eventually made it around the
world.) Christians here believe that
God desires to reclaim the
influential power of our San
Francisco and use it to bring the
transforming influence of the
Kingdom of God around the planet.
San Francisco has been chosen to be
the headquarters for the institute
to conduct Embryonic Stem Cell
Research.
Jesus loves San Francisco, and San
Francisco needs CHRIST.

Prayer Points for Marin County:
1. Redevelopment of a strong,
unified and purposeful pastoral
prayer group. Pray for deepening
of relationships between the pastors
and for the Lord to pour out favor
and blessing on the relationships.
Pray for protection for this fragile
movement as it begins to redevelop.
Ask God for a John 17 revelation for
all pastors and believers and the
strong desire to please Jesus by
walking together as one. Pray that
unity leads to strategic action from
these groups.
In continuing to pray for our
pastors, please ask the Lord to
encourage those who have labored for
many years and are discouraged over
a small harvest. Pray that all Marin
County pastors would walk in the
power of the Spirit and sense being
carried on by the Spirit in their
various ministries.
2. Prayer mobilization: Ask
Jesus to develop prayer groups in
all of our cities and to begin to
reveal those churches who are
praying and link them together as a
prayer net over Marin. Ask God to
link us together and grant a willing
spirit to prayer leaders in the
various congregations to join
together in concerted, strategic
prayer for our county.
3. Pray for a deepening
revelation of the work of Christ
on the cross and for a fresh
infilling with the Holy Spirit that
leads to personal transformation of
the hearts of the believers in
Marin. We believe this personal
transformation will lead to
congregational transformation and
then community transformation. Pray
for the multiplication of new
believers, leaders and churches that
leads to societal transformation.
4. Ask Jesus to help believers
to "pastor where they are planted"
so that the gospel penetrates every
aspect of life in Marin County. Ask
Jesus to give each believer a heart
to take spiritual responsibility and
to be a worker in whatever harvest
field He has placed them in. Ask
Jesus to help believers have loving
hearts of service toward those who
do not yet know Jesus and that they
will care deeply for those who do
not know Christ.
5. Pray for Christian marriages
to be a witness of life in Christ.
Pray for marriage to be affirmed and
protected in this County. Pray for
fruitfulness in those marriages.
6. Pray for a Joshua Generation
to rise up in our Youth who will
love and take this land for the
Lord! Ask God to light a fire in the
hearts for young people in Marin

youth into leadership positions. Ask
Jesus to anoint this new generation
to rise up and take their role and
place and execute the call and
Lord's redemptive purpose for their
lives.
7. Pray for Schools and the
Educational System to become
open to Christ. Pray especially for
believers who are dealing with
groups aggressively asserting
"diversity" training for all grades
(starting in kindergarten!). Ask God
to protect little hearts and minds
and preserve them for Jesus. Ask
Jesus to give courage, wisdom and
favor to believing parents as they
meet with principles and school
boards.
8. Decrease in unemployment and
the creation of new jobs. Pray
