Sutter and
Yuba Counties
Sutter County is strategically located in
the Capitol Region’s Northern Corridor. It
is a short drive from the Interstate 80 and
5 corridors and is served by State Highways
20 and 99. Sutter County is also home for
the Sutter Buttes, known as the Smallest
Mountain Range in the World. The population
of the County is about 84,000. The County
Seat is Yuba City.
The following
cities make up Sutter County: Yuba City,
Live Oak, Meridian, Nicolaus, Pleasant
Grove, Rio Oso, Robbins, Sutter, Trowbridge.
Beale Air Force Base is located near by in
Yuba County. Many of its service personal
leave in Yuba City. This base is the
reconnaissance bas for the US. One of the
U-2 pilots that recently crashed and died in
Afghanistan attended a church in Yuba City.
Beale pilots are daily in harms way.
Yuba and Sutter Counties are separated by
the Feather River and share a County web
site.
Yuba County was one of the original
counties of California, formed in 1850 at
the time of statehood. Parts of the county's
territory were given to Placer County in
1851, to Nevada County in 1851 and to Sierra
County in 1852. The county was named after
the Yuba River by Captain John Sutter for
the Native American village Yubu, Yupu or
Juba near the confluence of the Yuba and
Feather rivers. General Mariano Vallejo
stated that the river was named Uba by an
exploring expedition in 1824 because of the
quantities of wild grapes (uvas silvestres
in Spanish) which they found growing on its
banks.
Marysville, the county seat of Yuba County,
is one of California’s historic cities. Its
history as a community goes back to the Gold
Rush days.
The city is strategically located 40 miles
north of the state capitol of Sacramento
where Highways 70 and 20 intersect.
Commercial, agricultural, recreational,
educational and industrial activities for
the Yuba-Sutter area center around
Marysville.
Marysville is one of the top five commercial
centers in the surrounding 27 counties. It
is served by two railroad lines, two
highways, a regional airport and a public
bus line.
Sutter-Yuba Counties Prayer Focus
(This report reflects input from a Local
Pastor from Glad Tidings Church in Yuba
City.)
Continued Unity among the Churches & Pastors
The churches have suffered from sustained
disunity with some cases of disdain and
hatred. There are, however, a handful of
leaders that are meeting together. Overall
there is not much collaboration.
Pray that a
spirit of brotherly love will erupt among
the pastors of this area, and that the
Church of the City will emerge uniting their
hearts in “one accord” just like the
disciples in the book of Acts Chapter one.
Continued
Prayer mobilization in all the cities that
will lead to the multiplication of new
believers, leaders and churches that leads
to societal transformation. Pray God will
call forth watchmen of prayer in this county
until Pray Sutter County is Birthed! Use
Isaiah 62: 6,7 to call forth the watchmen
needed to cover the cities in this county.
Blessing upon
the Agricultural Industry and a release of
giving from major families that are still
the controlling interests in the largest
local companies. There are huge numbers of
new people moving to the area to buy first
time homes or to get more for their money.
Pray these new homes will be filled with
those who fear God and have a zeal for His
glory.
Decrease of
crime: Murder, Teen Pregnancy, Abortion,
Domestic Violence. Youth/Gangs. There is
significant gang activity, and teen
pregnancy rates have been toward the top
half of the 58 counties. There is a good
crisis pregnancy center here. We thank God
that there are no abortionists operating in
the county where there were once Six in the
Yuba-Sutter Counties. An effective pro-life
movement eliminated the abortionists, and
started the Pregnancy Center and the “Life
Chain.” - Pray for a revelation of the
Father's Heart and a spirit of adoption for
youth using Malachi 4:6. Pray for the church
to engage these youth and families with the
transforming gospel.
Revival for
the Churches and a Spiritual Awakening to
Christ in the cities. We also need an
awakening in all the Churches. Pray Psalms
85:6-9 over the churches of this area.
Decrease in
unemployment and the creation of new jobs.
Pray for a release of entrepreneurial energy
that leads to the creation of new businesses
that are sustainable. Yuba and Sutter
Counties have traditionally had the highest
unemployment rates in the state due to its
agricultural economy. Pray that the
Spiritual Awakening God is sending into this
area will also cause a great harvest upon
the land.
Pray for
Christian marriages to be a witness of life
in Christ. There has been a GREAT spiritual
attack against marriages. Pray for marriage
to be affirmed and protected in this County.
Prayer concerning the rise of pornography in
our area. Pray the pastors will begin to
collaborate together in an effort to
strengthen marriage.
Pray for the
influx of Eastern Religious Adherents to be
open to the Gospel of Christ. There are
about 16,000 East Indians (mostly Sikh with
two Sikh temples, and one Hindu Temple).
There are some Pakistanis (Most are Muslim
and they have a Mosque). There are 5000-6000
Hmong in Yuba – Sutter, some are Christians,
the rest animists. Pray for dreams and
visitations from God will open the door to
eastern religions in this area as promised
in Joel 2:28-32.
Pray God will
reclaim the high places in the Sutter
Buttes. Local Indians who inhabited this
area once practiced animal sacrifices and
human sacrifices. The Sutter Buttes were
considered a spiritual high place where
demonic powers could be solicited. Our
Church had a confrontation with Anton La Vey
prior to his death. There has been an
aggressive witchcraft / Satanist movement
here. Our church has received death threats
from people of the dark side including those
in the La Vey family. Witches have come into
our meetings to curse us. The Sutter Buttes
would be considered a vortex or power zone
for those on the dark side. Pray that God
will establish through His people a
Tabernacle of David on the High Places of
California. Pray that God will break the
power of witchcraft through a demonstration
of His love to those caught up in
witchcraft.
Pray concerning gambling. An Indian tribe
from Butte County wants to establish an
off-reservation casino in Yuba County. This
will have a negative effect on Sutter and
Yuba Counties.
Pray God will
replace the spirit of Greed with the spirit
of giving and generosity.
County History
In the early 1800's, the area now known as
Sutter County was inhabited by the native
Maidu Indians. Members of various Spanish
expeditions in search of mission sites, and
fur trappers lured by the abundant wildlife,
traveled through in 1841. The bulk of the
territory was deeded by the Mexican
Government to the County's namesake, John
Sutter. Established in 1842, John Sutter's
Hock Farm was the first large-scale
agricultural settlement in Northern
California, composed of grain, cattle,
orchards and vineyards.
SUTTER. The County seat is Yuba City.
Created February 18, 1850. Sutter County was
named after General John Augustus Sutter, a
native of Switzerland, who obtained a large
land grant from the Mexican government, and
called his first settlement New Helvetia
(now the City of Sacramento).
In 1841, the
general established a great stock ranch in
this area to which he retired in 1850 when
gold seekers deprived him of most of his
holdings at Sacramento.
